I grew up in Australia and New Zealand and later moved to England in my early teens. I spent my early medical training years in London at The Middlesex Hospital Medical School, as it merged with University College Hospital under the auspices of University College London.  I qualified from UCL in 1988.

From here, I went on to undertake specialist training in ENT Surgery in London before being appointed onto ENT Higher Surgical Training in the South West of England.  During my tenure in the South West, I undertook an exchange residency programme in Toronto, working with Dr Ralph Gilbert, and a fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London under Mr Peter Rhys Evans.
